Patient Name: Mr. Arif
Condition Suffering From: Liver Cirrhosis
Treatment/Procedure: Liver transplant with a live donor
Doctor/Surgeon: Dr. Subhash Gupta
Hospital: Max Hospital
The patient was suffering from Liver problem since 2006, This is really unfortunate that a man at a age of 28 was suffering from all the consequences of cirrhosis such as, internal bleeding, accumulation of fluid in the body and episodes of loss of consciousness. He was quite of malnourished and the veins in his system and the liver had also got thrombosed. The liver transplant operation was necessary for him to save his life. In the year 2014 – 16 Arif completed his education and started to save money for his treatment. His brother decided to donate his liver to Arif.
Brothers were scared of the surgery, they came India and met Dr. Subhash Gupta at Max Hospital. Dr. Subhash Gupta is the Liver Transplant Surgeon at Max Healthcare, Delhi. The Chief of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgeon and the Director of the Center of Liver and Biliary Sciences at Max Hospitals in Delhi is accredited for his exceptional work in liver transplantation field all over the world. After talking to Dr. Gupta the two brothers were comfortable and felt safe. Dr. Gupta examined the patient and it was clear that the liver transplant was required urgently. Liver transplant operations are done either from a cadaveric liver or from a living related donor. This transplant is carried out as of the half of the liver of the donor is taken out and removal of the patient’s liver is done and rejoining the donors liver with the help of the microscope. The biggest challenge in the surgery was because of Arif’s veins as they were thrombosed, the portal vein thrombosed were managed to open and establish the flow of blood so that the patient’s liver could get the blood. This was possible to do by the special techniques which only Max hospital has, after this technique the blood was flowing fairly smooth and the liver started working in the body of Arif.
Arif was discharged from the hospital in just 2 weeks of the transplant and now he is doing preety well and the transplant was successful. Arif appreciated the team of Max hospital as they treated him like their son, he was very much happy and thankful to the entire team. Before the transplant he was feeling weak and was not able to walk properly, but now he can sleep well and even can eat properly. Just after second week of the surgery he also started walking properly and go back home.
